Aging Tequila

When aging Tequila, fill the barrel with a blanco (clear or non colored) tequila. Over time, the tequila will absorb the color of the oak becoming a golden brown.

After 2 months of aging, the tequila is considered a Reposado or "rested". Smoother in taste and a light golden color, this is the most popular type of tequila.

When aged for over a year the tequila is called an Anejo or "aged" and will have acquired a heavy oak flavor and very smooth to the taste.

Once aged to taste, empty the tequila into a glass bottle and seal tightly. This will stop the aging process. You can now begin aging a new barrel.

Aged spirits in barrels used for the first time will have a heavier oak taste than subsequent barrels. Barrels left without liquid will dry out quickly.
